Tmw sheathing

Sheathing – is a complex and specific construction element. We are often faced with the fact that the contractors - roofers do not include into the contract the works for roof overhangs sheathing. This is due to the fact that sheathing requires time not less than for installation of the roof itself. In addition, overhangs sheathing should be performed much later than installation of the roof - usually after walls finishing, or in parallel with these works. Here, at this stage the hidden defects emerge, discrepancies of planes and wrong geometry. Sheathing is aimed just to connect the vertical front part of the building and roof itself.

The main requirement of the customer of course – to provide sheathing in such a way that does not require frequent maintenance in the future, as access to the sheathing is always difficult.

The high price level suites usually use natural wood or metal (copper, tin, etc.). Often these materials are combined in various options.
Standard board is not suitable for sheathing, because thin fillets and joints can not withstand inclement weather. A special profile should be made for roof with a quarter. At the same time the thick board of 20 -25mm is used that makes construction extra heavy and needs the frame reinforcement.

Therefore, the optimal choice for overhangs sheathing are profiles made of TMW with a thickness of 15 - 19mm , which is easier than the usual one by 30-40%.
We prefer to make front board of "Rhombus", which is commonly used on wooden vented fronts. It forms a gap of 6- 8mm which provides adequate ventilation.
Roof overhangs typically include two elements: wind board and proper plane sheathing

Properly performed sheathing serves for the following purposes:

  • Protection of roofed sub-construction against blowing wind and roof and building cooling in winter
  • Protection against overheating and drying out in summer
  • Ventilation for steam discharge from the roofing.
  • Protection of insulation layer against weathering

Roof overhangs sheathing in economic version is usually carried out using vinyl siding , plastic siding, etc.

The most common option of roof overhangs sheathing: wooden profile with a quarter.

  • Recommended width: up to 140mm
  • Board thickness: 18 to 26mm
  • You can use different types of profiles with quarter.
  • The board should have expansion joints at least 6 % of its width and not less than 8mm between the end connections
  • When sheathing with solid boards (clapboard with fillets and joints) vent screens should be installed.
  • Standard volume of vents should be 15% of the total square area.
